Anxiety around ACL injury

Alright, here’s a huge fear that just came up. I have an ACL injury from about 13 years ago. And I have never gotten surgery ... I’m not sure where the anxiety around it is coming from.

At the time I went to physio and I swear to god they didn’t tell me that it was an ACL injury. My memory isn’t that good, but i would have remembered it they told me I needed surgery. What I do remember is I had a few months with them and afterwards they told me I was okay to start rugby and then my knee gave out after try outs and I was running down the stairs. And something about my anxiety Flared up.... I didn’t go back to physio for some reason. And I just never played sports again . The knee kept giving out and I’m not sure why I never did anything about it.

Flash forward to about 4 years ago. I finally went to my doctor about it and found out it was in fact an ACL injury. I believe I needed to call to book for the surgery and never did. I forget why. And now I’m living in fear of calling them back because I’ve put it off for so long. I feel like I’m going to be judged . Man anxiety is just the worst.

Dont worry about being judged. I think you should get it taken care of so it doesn't get any worse. I've put things off too and decided it just best to just do it. 13 years is a long time to remember what was said. They have your notes on record so they can just look it up and see what they said. I don't think they remembered what was said until they looked at their visit with you.

Couple of things . U won't be judged for things we all do. I sometimes get the brain fog that affects my memory & my kids remind me of things I've said but that was when I was just out of hospital after major surgery, it's much better now.

The other thing on Monday at 8am call ur doctors surgery & ask for them to sort out a hospital date for you and be honest about ur memory. Put dates in ur mobile calendar , set alarms for medication & forgive urself for taking so long to act.

I bet u once u have the surgery & rehab , u will say to urself why did I wait so long.

I wish u loads of luck with ur procedure & rehab

I have had that happen where I've put off something then been scared to call them back. I think we are highly sensitive people. Overly tuned in to what people think.
