Propanolol

Has anyone taken this medicine for anxiety? I tried a few days of Zoloft but due to interactions with other meds I don’t think I want to continue. My doctor mentioned another medicine and I wanted to see if anyone has taken Propanolol instead.

What dosage do you take and how many times a day? Do you feel it keeps you calm and in a good mindstate? Also does it help control the racing heart rate if you have that (ThAts one of the major things I have)

I think i take 25 grams of propranolol once a day during nighttime ☺️ , it does help a lot with racing heart rate ☺️

Me too Hiba, they are beta blockers , I was given them for palpitations and anxiety , I take 2.5mg once a day to start with and they do help me, one of the side effects is cold fingers and toes because of circulation , it I’d put up with that to stop the other stuff 👍 ..

It helps with my anxiety a lot I’m thankful also not shaking too much when I’m nervous or anxious.

I get that shaking, it’s a horrible feeling isn’t it, it’s like you have the flu 😳. MD

It is really horrible 😞. One time my shaking was so bad and a teacher noticed I was so embarrassed 😅

Did you have issues with your BP being higher due to anxiety before starting the propanolol? If so did it help!

I shake soooo much . It’s aggravating!! I’m shaking so much half the time I don’t even realize it and then I’m like wow. My doctor prescribed 60 MG but I’m not taking that so I wrote her back to see if she can lower me to like 10 MG or something: I hate these doctors that just try and push so much so quickly! I refuse to take that much. Did you have a higher BP Prior to taking it?

60mg does sound a lot, the leaflets says to start with 2.25mg to see how it goes then gradually increase the dose, thankfully I haven’t got high BP , Hiba is taking the same dose I think though she’s got 25grams, I’m on 2.5mg do nt know it’s she means mg ? I’m in the UK so maybe the doses are different

I'm sorry the Zoloft didn't work out

I used Propranolol for a few months to no effect. I always called it "EndItAll" (instead of Inderal), my psychiatrist was not amused :/

I got off all psychiatric meds due to many bad side effects and have never felt better. I am not recommending anyone else do it without support and mind transformative changes.🙂

I was on Propranolol for about 18 months. I’m in the U.K, so I’m not sure if the dosage is different here. I started on 10mg tablets, taking one 3 times a day. I found it helpful initially apart from feeling very tired and having freezing hands and feet permanently! The only downside (and this may be a personal thing rather than a universal experience) was that my tolerance to them built up very quickly so I was on 120mg a day quite soon after being prescribed them. I’ve come off them now as I started to rely on them and plan my day around them. I’m now on Sertraline (brand name Lustral) which has been like a miracle drug for me. My overall advice would be that Propranolol is great for short term periods of heightened anxiety, but for long term healing they aren’t fantastic. Hope this helps and good luck xx

Have taken it but had to stop due unpleasant side effect. I stopped it cold turkey 3 weeks ago. The experience is disturbing. Anxiety rebound couple with severe chest pain. However that was the way I reacted any other person may not react the same way. One strong advise if you choose to go on propranolo please talk to your doctor before you stop. Stopping it suddenly can be disastrous.
