Tapering from Fluoxetine

I was wondering if anyone has taken Fluoxetine and was tapered off and what to expect? I am not currently taking it, but I was recently tapered off Venlafaxine and it has been suggested that Fluoxetine can sometimes help with relapse symptoms.Thanks in advance.

Effexor is a SNRI. Prozac is a SSRI. I'm not a doc, but they both work in different ways. Usually you're on one or the other, but not both. Relapse is not a symptom. It is returning to the state that the drug was, hopefully, alleviating. Withdrawal can occur when stopping both a SSRI and SNRI because our brain gets used to the meds. That is what tapering tends to alleviate.

If you are worried about relapse (different from withdrawal) I would speak to your doc.

Hi TX55 I am on Effexor only just started after being on Sertraline. I am in a Facebook group and have also done the research. The withdrawal from Effexor is really bad, so I have read, I have found a few posts where the doctor has put people coming off Effexor on to Prozac as it helps with the withdrawal from Effexor and Prozac does not have the severe withdrawal symptoms. I did my research before starting Effexor as I do not want to be on them forever, although it is working really well for me right now. Previously coming off Citalopram was hell. The Sertraline, at least, stopped that. Hope this helps.
