I wanted to take a minute to say happy world autism day. For those who have been with me for a while may know that my younger (and only) brother has autism.
Growing up, my parents parenting was always scrutinized by other parents because everyone thought they were spoiling us when in truth, when my brother was born, there wasn’t a whole lot of resources for people, especially how to raise a child with autism. It was hard on them, to the point where I even became a third parent since they both worked government/military jobs. A lot of my friends, peers and even neighbours judged us as if they knew better but there just wasn’t as much information about it like there is these days.
Despite all this, yes, we all have our problems and spats and what not but I think my parents did an amazing job considering they little amount of resources we had in regard to my brothers autism.
People don’t understand unless they’re in a similar position, it can be frustrating sometimes but that’s okay, they don’t get to see how wonderful these individuals truly are.
Everything I did growing up was because and for my brother and maybe that’s not a great thing to admit to but it’s true. He was my biggest inspiration and even though he’s a pain in my arse sometimes, he’s still teaching me new things every day.
Happy world autism day and happy autism awareness month 💡💙
Be sure to drink some water and get something to eat. Take your meds and make that appointment with your doctor or therapist. Do that thing you’ve been putting off. Go for a walk or get some exercise. Talk to someone. Be creative. Have some tea. Cuddle with a pet. Smile. Laugh. Be gentle with yourself and put your needs first!
Hope you all have a wonderful day/night!
Take care 🤗🖤
