Hello from fellow sufferer of the PC blues! It's great I still have a computer that is running, but I know all about a glitchy and the stress it brings.
My computer is a resource to amuse and distract me from various health problems. So, with my hands, wrists, and arms aching, I deal with relentless warning pop-ups that demand acknowledgement: Warning this, and do you want to fix that. (Well, ya, I do... but it won't let me.) It either freezes -- forget ctrl + alt + del, it sneers at that -- or crashes completely every couple days.
I'm desperate to get a new one, but even though I'm trying to Google "How to pick your new computer", I don't understand a word.
As for woo-hoo, 'round here NOAA promises cold, snow, and uh... more snow. Woo-hoo.
But if you can end on an up note, I will try too also. I found roast chicken bones with a little bit of meat on them in the fridge, and now it's boiling on the back of the stove! Nature's prescription! Yum! (Unless the skin was oversalted... didn't taste the broth yet. Oh, well. I'll see.)
Something important I recently learned!!! Confirmed by extensive research!!!! Please consider REFURBISHED computers!!!! Less expensive, many options.
I plan to win the lottery this weekend. So....we'll chat, after the BIG WIN...have fun choosing two FANTASTIC COMPUTERS!!!! We'll have FUN!!! We'll make a list of how we'll celebrate!!!
But, IF YOU CAN'T WAIT UNTIL MY HUGE WIN....check out chromebooks.
Check out CLEARANCE Chromebooks...Amazon OUTLET. E-Bay. Also, Chromebooks and clearance Chromebooks from WalMart...they ship everywhere!!!..Check out Best Buys. Oh...check out regular Amazon as well as Amazon Outlet.
Just finished doing some research....here's what I found:
VERIZON: SAMSUNG CHROMEBOOK; $0 NOW; $25.22/mo for 24 months
Amazon: HP Chromebook; $211.18; Samsung Chromebook; $159.89 (free shipping);
Dell Chromebook; $139.99 (free shipping). Checked many others...these are some of the best deals I've found. If you haven't considered a Chromebook, please do so. Have used in the past, easy to get use to...loved it.
So...stupid, silly, impulsive me...found this DUMB 'WOW' computer...hooked by monthly payments.
Hi Sophie, hope you are well you need your computer an today my problem was the connection,we tend to get het up and no bloody wonder,im ok and getting by ,hope your not neglecting yourself take care, hope you have it under control now .love and best wishes=Goldie
OH...HAPPY ME!!! MY LOVELY FRIEND, MY GOLDIEOLDIE!!! SO THRILLED TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!! And since this computer wonder thingy is working, how 'bout a chat?????
Glad to hear you survived your ordeal,my router lights keep flashig, nevermind its behaved all afternoon, glad to hear your weathers improving dont want a snowy Easter-are you there mJoan Armatradings profiles on tv just now -saw her once-do you like her?
Which ordeal??? The loo? The ordeal of having a rebellious computer?? There are always so many on-going ordeals...like CHANGE, of any kind, throws me for a loop!! I'd probably be crying, upsetting my dear fur kids, feeling oh so guilty for ever having had a cranky thought, much less sharing my up-set with the lovely, patient people from our Forum-Family...and I'm writing about my courageous COMPUTER!!...the poor tiny guy living inside, in such cramped quarters, trying so mightily to address all the glitches!!! And, Goldie? Just think...I want to replace this computer for a brand new one??? Too, too much CHANGE!!!!
Oh no!!! What if I miss this winter's snow? The CHANGE in weather may cause me to trip...take a nasty fall!!!
Sure is,hasnt happened for quite some time and normally,I would be OTT about it,just hoping it stays like that ,have you had your PCprobs too=hope yours is sorted-not sure mine is..lol
Yep,I reckon you have a good destress model there in Tara, most animals can understand their owners emotions, maybe even better than we can ;;my little cat passed 2yrs this month she was only 6yrsboydid my whole body go into complete panic, the wee soul took a stroke---I have got over it she was sent for to learn lessons and I will never forget her and what I learnt from her;;;;π¦πΆππβπ¦Ί
I am so sorry for your loss. We can learn so much from our animal companions if we allow them to teach us. Some people think we're foolish, being hurt when an animal we've grown attached to dies. I guess they're entitled. I have experienced that loss, and it is terrible.
I tried with a mobile and had her on video, but theres not one that I can get to see her as I would want -----Im not brave, deep in my heart I will know what I should do,I have had 2 cats before her ---and ----it wont be something I would take on lightly, especially since Im considered elderly, but very young at heart, thankyou for asking!!have you always had a dog,?
I had a dog a while back, but when he suffered and died due to throat cancer I lost part of myself. I couldn't look at a dog for a very long time. My dear Tara is a green-cheeked parakeet. (See avatar.)
Yes so sorry for your loss ,its quite a traumatic experrience--that wee bird is a real beauty and has a glint in its eye ,spells trouble ,I thought Tara was a dog, dont know where that came from-I do like birds a lot, always though Id get a parrot many moons ago lolπ₯°
Oh my gosh! You are right on the money! She is a beauty... but oh boy! is there a glint in that wee eye. I knew nothing about parrots before I bought her home, but I have since been instructed by a very strict teacher! π¬ π¦
Its not so much a glint, but its not happy about taken its photo, bet it can chatter away, im always amazed not just the different colours but their ability to mimic is that the proper description,πβ€οΈ
My baby does not use human speech, but I have learned an amazing number of parrot "words". I had no idea how many things birds communicate with the variety of sounds they produce, but I have gradually learned.
No, "mimic" is not accurate. Many birds are able to reproduce human speech, but it has been conclusively shown they are not mindlessly repeating sound without meaning. Check out Alex and Me by Dr. Irene Pepperberg if this subject interests you at all. It's a wonderful book about the relationship that developed between Dr. Pepperberg and her African Grey parrot "Alex".
Or check out this documentary on crow intelligence:
Thankyou for that educational video, its great to know how birds animals survive in this overwhelming human jungle, their intelligence astounds me...!!!and your ability to navigate on pc as well as knowledge also keep on being informative..
Are you busy Sophie,In watching Kte Bush from 79,doubt if you have heard of her she did one concert --Kate Bush anyone remember her ---glad you got your pc to work!!
YES, YES, YES!!!! I do remember Kate Bush...gee, just think...1979. Memorable year. Who were Kate's parents? And why did this question pop into my brain?
SNOW, SNOW FOREVER STAY AWAY!!!! Or, picture this: HUGE March snowstorm. 10' tall with 20' drifts. My doorbell rings!!! I open the door...who could it be??? A CUTIE PETUTTI young, young, man. "Hi there!! I'd really enjoy shoveling out your car; clearing off the snow on your car...you're seemingly such a dear, sweet older...OOPS...SLIGHTLY older lady!!!"
"Knock yourself out, Cutie...then come on in for some hot chocolate and a nice long chat!"
I took some pills: Tylenol + caffeine, and it's like a miracle! Two days of a headache from hell diminished to a dull throb. I'm worried about tonight though. I dasn't take caffeine near bedtime. Can you see me climbing the walls around 3 a.m.?
omg - i sure can see you climbing the walls!! but i wouldn't recommend it to you!!! wall climbing can b really tough on your body - and especially hard on the walls!!!
.
and HEL!L yes!!! that should be our theme song!!!!!!
Crazy stuff, like all of the sudden, out of the blue, little tiny dashes, traveling backwards, wipe out each letter of every word I've written (probably saying.."Shut Up!!!")...or, KABOOM...the scroll bar flies up and down, up and down, fluttering throughout the trip! Or, there I sit, (desk-top), typing my wishing words, trying to offer solace, some help..POOF!!! All the words disappear, the screen is blank-white.
Glad you (may have) laughed (just a little??? Or did you REALLY have a chuckle?).
Goldie dear,
Here's the scoop...my sister just left to have a visit with her beloved grandchildren. This means I can VACUUM (she hates the sound), and REALLY DEEP CLEAN!!! Isn't that fabulous..isn't that grand??? EXACTLY, precisely, how I planned to spend my 'golden years'...HA!! I challenge a 20 year to keep up with me!! And, all the while, singing to my pups, offering treats, doing the laundry...oh yeahhhh...MULTI-TAXING!!! Yep...not just MULTI-TASKING. UCH!!!!!
Wish I could spend time with you right now!!! Maybe, hopefully, we'll have a chat later!! Are we in the same time-zone? Country!! All this time, and I've never asked you...I'm in the USA..EST.
Where ever you are, try to enjoy your day!!!! goldieoldie..turn on those GOLDIEOLDIE'S, roll up your jeans, kick off your shoes and DANCE!!! Dancing ALWAYS throws out any sad blues!!!
Sopkie your a wee Golden wonder,no have measures with you,yes ,its always a good idea to knuckle down when the coast is clear----I can hear you shouting all those miles between us --Im in Scotland ,your in swUSA. nevermind I can understand your lingo whatever way you put it-better correct your name Sophie---You have a fighting spirit, and dont ask me to interpret ,you are simply the best, better than anyone trying to find the words for Tina Tunner, beginning to think my spellings all wrong--no its the computer ,omits letters and all the rest--hope you havent tired yourself out will be back soon to finish our song -Tina Turners Simply the best, and some dancing too---hope your fighting fit----cheerio/bye for now!!
i'm hanging on... dealing with a lot of hardships, and sadness... but tryin to stay positive.. how've you been faring? (outside the technical pains :-| )
.
as for what you've described... the problem sounds like hardware issue(s)... i know the operating system on that device - and it's pretty rock solid - and that also has me thinking toward hardware.
as i said - i'm not familiar with their hardware - so i don't know anything about their failure rates, or service policies. but it appears to be a pad-form factor computer (unless you have the notebook) - which is likely difficult to be serviced outside the manufacturer - and they probably just do full swap-outs...
.
NUMBER 1 recommendation - before anything else - backup your stuff!!! all of their current models support USB ports where you could plug in external storage to back your stuff onto. also - there's the possibility of using cloud storage for backup - such as dropbox or google-drive.
.
after you have all your stuff safely backed up... you can check out your options. if youre out of warranty - they may offer a 'flat-rate swap-out' where they might charge 10-20% of full replacement cost to give you a refurb'ed replacement.
.
how did you like the device prior to its giving you headaches ?
Oh, I'm so, so sorry. We could (don't like the word 'should') be talking about the sadness and many hardship..NOT the silliness of my computer ills. BORING. Will try to talk tomorrow. But going to the Vet. My poor dog.
Thank you for the kindness you've so graciously extended. I've reserved 'Computers for Dummies'...apply myself more than constantly complaining.
It isn't at all fair. I have the ability to learn. And I have the resources although it's difficult because the library is closed and has been for almost..no..it has been a year.
I have a glossary with another book. I'll memorize everything . Will report back to you with my progress!!
Maybe a rumor...maybe I had a dream...maybe my deep down to the ocean's bottom wish...supposedly, warmer weather begins the beginning of next week!!! BUT...this is what the forecast is for where I live, Luna_Child!! Not sure about what will happen in your neck of no leaves on the trees, cold, probably wet, woods & trails.
