Excessive Sleeping?

Why do I feel like sleeping makes me feel better?

I read in other places that sleeping is not recommended for anxiety and depression.

But when I wake up from sleeping too much I feel more refreshed and relaxed. And in a better mood.

For me sleeping is my escape so that’s most likely why it makes me feel better. When I wake up though I don’t feel energized just want to stay in bed and go back to sleep. It is definitely related to my depression.

Hi, You are one lucky person who gets quality sleep to wake up refreshed and recharged 🤗 Many of us struggle to get to sleep, stay asleep or wake up earlier than required. I am assuming that you don't take meds at night?

Correct. I don’t take meds only some Herbal Supplements. Like the other day I slept about 10 hours or. 11 and I woke up feeling good in a better mood. I actually went out to Costco with my wife.

Maybe it’s sleeping is a way for my brain to repair??

I love sleep, too, freddy, but like the others, when I’m in a bout of depression, typically don’t feel refreshed when I wake up. 😕 I say whatever works for you is good — as long as you’re not sleeping your life away. 😉

You are lucky that you can sleep too much. I become too anxious to get up and do something for the day. Then I think wow I sure could stay in bed, it would feel so good, but I can't go to sleep again. If sleeping is good for you and you feel much better when you wake up then I think that's good. You probably need the rest body and mind.

There isn’t a rule. If you are waking up drowsy or sad it is a problem. This happens to me. I heard recently too much sleep may lead to dementia so I’m wanting to improve. I need to turn off the screen. My 🐈 would be a good ⏰ if she didn’t keep waking me up at night.

If you wake up feeling refreshed, sleep is what you needed. Listen to your body and ignore what other people have written. ❤️

How many hours do you sleep each night on average? When I’m working, I average 7.25 hours per night but that leaves me feeling exhausted most of the time.

I do actually feel better when I wake up. I actually wanna do something when I wake. The thing is that I don’t wake in the mornings it’s usually in the afternoon :(I get maybe 8-10 hours of sleep.

8-10 doesn’t sound excessive to me. I think you are listening to what your body needs right now. 7-9 hours per night is most common but 6-10 hours per night can be appropriate for some people. ( Helpguide.org )

It sounds like you are on the high/very high side of “normal.”
