A couple of days ago I posted here about my situation: living in a personal care home with my room having less heat than the other rooms in the building. This happens every year (I've lived here 3 years). Fiddling with the thermostat doesn't help my room. No air is coming out of the registers. Unfortunately the administrator, who called somebody to fix it last year, is out sick for nobody knows how long. I ordered a thermometer from Amazon which will hopefully prove that the temperature is less than 70 degrees, which its supposed to be according to the regulations. In the meantime I'm wearing 3 layers of clothing including thermal underwear all the time, while the residents downstairs are walking around in short sleeves. I don't like to be cold. I also just ordered an electric blanket from Amazon because the outdoor temperatures are supposed to be even colder next week (I'm in north central Pennsylvania) and there is a snowstorm on the way. I also like to practice yoga and it's difficult with all this clothing on. I have arthritis and I'm supposed to move my joints to avoid stiffness. A staff member stopped by to tell me they don't want to turn the thermostat any higher because that would make other people too warm. So I guess I'm just supposed to freeze. I did call the ombudsman and she's pretty good at following through and getting problems solved. I'm also thinking about ordering thermal drapes; there are only thin curtains on my window now. What upsets me is all this extra warm clothing and the electric blanket does not come cheap and the house is not paying for it. When I lived in my own apartment before I moved here, not having heat was considered an emergency and maintenance came immediately to fix it. For this I'm paying $1,000 a month. Once again I'm thinking about getting my own apartment but I wonder if I can handle independent living.

Unfortunately the regulations do not allow us to have any kind of space heater, including oil filled radiators. They are considered a fire hazard.
