Recently tested positive for COVID and am now isolated in a room with only my thoughts for company. I’ve always dealt with my anxiety by doing mind numbing activities, wether it be playing video games or watching tv but when quarantined those no longer do the trick and I find myself in this constant roller coaster of anxious thoughts and feelings. Fortunately I’m not currently exhibiting any symptoms but I have this irrational fear that I’m just waiting around for the undertaker. I know all the statistics etc but for some reason I can’t get my brain on the same page and I just have this constant pit in my stomach of fear and anxiety. Wondering if anyone has any resources that have helped or suggestions on what I can do to proactively occupy my time in quarantine. Thanks in advance and look forward to hearing/getting to know some of you.

You mentioned how you dealt with anxiety in the past by avoiding and i think its important to acknowledge that isnt a good option in the long run whether it deals with the symptoms or not. There are times when avoidance is appropriate if your anxiety is above your ability to cope with it. There is a part of DBT therapy called distress tolerance that has many suggestion of things to try. The main issue is the need to get more comfortable with your thinking. most people are in some type of avoidance all day long which isnt good for their mental health. It decreases your ability to cope with problems like the one your currently experiencing. Ive found starting my day without my normal avoidance activities for a period of time has been very helpful. Maybe try starting with 30 minutes at first and increase overtime.
