To understand what is happening first you have to understand yourself. And a little of how your nervous system works under stress.
You have been ill awhile and this has slowly ground you down. You are nervously exhausted, when did you last have a good night's sleep? So essential for returning to good mental health.
Exhausted nerves are made worse by the fear hormones you release every time you opt for the worst case scenario for all your symptoms.
But there is no worst case scenario for you, it's your over sensitive nerves that exaggerate everything making everything seem ten times worse.
No doom awaits you, no serious accident, no terminal illness, nothing at all like that. It's all a product of a vivid imagination magnified many times over by those sensitised nerves.
You are in no danger, you will recover your quiet mind, the power of anxiety is limited. Anxiety will not kill you. It will not disable you. It will not reduce you to a gibbering wreck. Many people have passed through this forum on the way to recovery. Not one of them ever gibbered.😊.
But I know that merely telling you this is not enough to bring about your recovery. Because there is that big question that needs to be addressed first: the thing that over time has brought you low with unendurable anxiety. This may be over work, a toxic relationship, grief, loss, guilt, diasappointment - only you know what caused your illness.
This unhappiness must be faced and overcome even if it means ruthless action on your part. If you aren't sure how then confide in the wisest person you know, the wisest person you can trust, and seek their good counsel.
May I suggest.
Do not add second fear to the flash of first fear. Fear is the enemy even though you have nothing to fear.
Do not fight your illness because fighting creates more tension and stress.
Get 9 hours sleep every night to recharge your batteries for the day ahead.
Accept the bad feelings feerlessly now that you know they are paper tigers without the power to do physical harm. But accept them only for the moment.
Do not look for instant solutions, they don't exist, be prepared to let time pass.
Get to know the method for recovery devised by "the woman who cracked the anxiety code" - Claire Weekes. Google the name of her first book, obtain a copy and read it once, twice, three times until you know how to respond to your bad feelings by instinct. Maybe the last thing you feel like doing right now is read a book but it's a short book and it's all about you.
Very quickly Claire Weekes' method, as explained in that first book, will give you Hope. Something you may have sought in vain so far. Next it will set out in simple terms the path you can take for full recovery.
"Hope and help for your nerves" by Doctor Claire Weekes, available for a few dollars new or used on Amazon and Ebay.
L,
I agree with Jeff, with two additional experiences..
I also have had that Horrible beyond description Pain in my chest, that will Not go Away !! What a way to Feel !!!
It feels like when forced to do public speaking in school when already are painfully shy due to extreme emotional neglect at home..
Second experience is learning that the intense fear is out of all the past Painful experiences you have already been through.
There's a Whole lot More to it than this,
but it's best to learn only one thing at a time, because it's all so very complicated..
If I wasn't a computer programming geek that applied my abilities to intensly study things without any limit to my efforts, I could never have come to the understandings that I have...
So you all Know, the Catman has a few enemies here. I'll say no more about that than this...
