Has anyone tried EMDR therapy for PTSD or Acute Stress Disorder? I'm looking into the possibility of trying it.

I'm seeing a therapist who does EMDR and I tried it a couple of times. Then my fear and panic returned (not related to EMDR) and now I'm scared the the EMDR will trigger a panic attack, so I won't try it again. But I've heard really good, positive things about it, and think maybe you should give it a try.

Hi

I have done EMDR. It's a tough therapy to go through. But it did help me put some perspective on my trauma.

I did this in addition to talk therapy.

I’ve done that. It helped me a lot! I was stuck on some major issues that caused me a l lot of unhappiness and ruminating thoughts, that usually turned into major panic attacks. It took about 3 sessions to finally be at peace with a very painful part of my life that has been haunting me for over 10 years. The treatment helps you reprocess bad memories. Give it a try! I hope it will help you as much as it helped me❣️

I'm 67 years old and EMDR worked great in resolving my childhood trauma. Yes, you do have to go back to those horrible memories, but it quickly helped me to put them in perspective & stop thinking so much about them. I stopped seeing my therapist last November as I had been doing quite well managing my anxiety disorder & made it through the first six months of Covid. I just started seeing my therapist again due to some very upsetting events involving other people, & EMDR is again helping me & is calming me down as EMDR is not just for past trauma. I went through extensive CBT four years ago when I had a breakdown & it worked great as I was very proactive & did the required work, but I've found that EMDR works much quicker. Give it a try, you really have nothing to lose. Good luck.

I have tried it and as long as you can get relaxed during it I found it helpful.

I’ve had great success with EMDR. My favorite is mark Graham’s “calm and confident”. Anytime I’m feeling bad I plug in my headphones and feel so good after. Good luck!
