Medication : Everyone should be seeing... - Anxiety and Depre...
Medication
For years my GP prescribed my antidepressants for my mild clinical depression and it worked fine for me. Over the years I attended therapy for awhile which helped a lot. And kept that routine for 25 years. It’s only recently that I needed to see a psychiatrist for medication change. Everyone is different so I disagree with you when you say that only a psychiatrist should be seen to receive meds. But I’m happy for you that you’re going to get to see your psychiatrist and hopefully you will get the help you need. Good luck.
I agree. Psychiatrist are specialists. They have a different knowledge base than a GP
Some GP can be very good at prescribing.
My own GP has a whole different thought process on mental health. She believes you can just turn it off. I tell her to stay in her lane.
Good luck with your appointment. It's all a matter of finding the right person to work with.
I recommend thinking of that first meeting as an interview where you are the interviewer. I think you Can find a list of questions to ask online. Their values in prescribing judiciously is important to me but it might be different for you.
I work with a PA under a psychiatrist who really listens. Last time she gave me three options...presented all the positives and negatives and asked me to participate in the decision. She does not subscribe to the idea that every patient will be on meds for the rest of their life and neither do I.
That is where therapy comes in. They should be done together. The doctor should be encouraging it. This is how I was able to reduce my dependency on meds and feel like I can have more control over my own body. We live in extraordinary times so I recently began a med but my goal is to grow out of it when the time is right.
I had a bad experience with my last psychiatrist and I’m starting a new one on Monday and I heard he
was very mean I’m in group therapy and I have to use him
She isn’t actually a psychiatrist. I have never met the psychiatrist. I have found in general I have better luck with pa’s especially if they trained in nursing. They are taught to see the individual
Have to use him? Is it a hospital? Otherwise That is messed up. That relationship is important. I wouldn’t trust that.
No it’s not a hospital it’s a therapy group with psychiatrist in office
