The thing about high anxiety and panic attacks is that their bark is worst than their bite. They make you feel dreadful, the angel of death is nearby ready to take you away. But nobody actually ever dies, becomes permanently disabled or ends up as a resident of the cuckoos nest because of them.

Anxiety's power is in fact limited. But it makes up for it by making everything else seem ten times worst than it is. That mole on my neck MUST be cancer. Those muscular chest pains must be heart failure. And that dull ache has got to be my pancreas packing up.

Of course, they're nothing of the sort. Just nervous exhaustion working overtime on your imagination.

Severe anxiety and panic attacks are fuelled by fear. If you can moderate the flow of adrenaline and other fear hormones then you're starting to win back control. So don't react to the flash of first fear with second fear.

Of course, if you can work out what undue demands on your mind and time have caused you so much stress in the first place then you must take the drastic action needed to protect yourself.

A job you hate, toxic relationships, grief, shame, money worries, worry about loved ones...all the causes of over sensitive nerves have answers. And you may well have to be ruthless to free yourself of those causes to recover your quiet mind.

With understanding, reassurance and a plan for recovery there's no reason why in time you shouldn't free yourself from these demons. Permanently.
