Everyone has concerns for their future. The problem for people with anxiety disorder is that it exaggerates by a factor of ten any small worries we have. So normal concerns become obsessional worries.
The way to free ourselves from worrying too much about the future is the same as freeing ourselves from all the other symptoms of anxiety disorder. We must stop adding second fear to every flash of first fear we feel. We must reassure ourselves that all the symptoms of high anxiety are fake and counterfeit: the result of that process that exaggerates small worries ten fold.
Having a new boss doesn't mean we'll lose our job. Those chest pains aren't heart failure: they are muscular tension caused by anxiety.
Releasing too much fear hormone causes our nervous system to become over sensitised which is what causes all these exaggerated responses.
When we stop adding second fear to first fear, when we stop frightening ourselves half to death every five minutes, our over sensitised nerves recover and all our symptoms of high anxiety will yield. This will include fear of the future.
How do you overcome fear, you may ask, and bring about this complete recovery from anxiety disorder?
You stop fighting your symptoms and fearful thoughts as fighting only produces more stress and tension. Instead you agree to accept for the time being all these uncomfortable symptoms and troublesome thoughts.
Respite and recovery can be won by practising the four protocols set out by Doctor Claire Weekes, written a lifetime ago, as true today as then.
Face. Accept. Float. And let time pass

Well thank you for sharing the information with us! Many of us are struggling during times like these and these are the words we need to hear so thank you again!
Agreed! It’s a process and a lifestyle change. Don’t lose hope, b/c it can take time to relate to panic differently.
Thanks for these words of encouragement Jeff1943, I'm struggling right now..like a lot of others. Never felt so lonely in my life, will definitely get back to Dr.Claire today. Keep safe x.
It's been a while since I have come to read your post to make me feel better. Ive been following your advises since I read you for the first time a year ago. I've been feeling a lot better with the confidence that I won the anxiety battle until it came back again and stronger than ever. My issue with healt anxiety doesn't seem to have an end for me. I consider myself a healthy person, but working in health care and knowing too much it has turned me into disbelief my doctors and everything they know, and google doesn't really help that much. As much as I repeat myself that I have no control of my future, I can't shake this feeling that I need to be in control at whole times, and it's not only exhausting but very frustrating and painful. I just want to say thank you because you indirectly opened a door once on how to live anxiety free and I got to taste that for a few months and it was awesome, I just hated that it came back.
Anxiousabby, I'm sorry your health anxiety has come back. I suppose working in healthcare provides lots of triggers for someone with health anxiety. But you can work in healthcare and still be free from the symptoms of health anxiety. In fact working in healthcare provides the opportunities to practice Acceptance which leads to respite and recovery from health anxiety.
What I said in my post here was in brief form the method devised many years ago by Doctor Claire Weekes but I failed on this occasion to mention her first book which spells out her Acceptance method in simple non medical terms. It is a fairly short book and people say that as they read it they feel that the author knows them personally and is sitting beside them as they read it.
Her first book, which is all that's needed to bring understanding, reassurance and a road to recovery, is titled 'Self help for your nerves' in the u.k. and the same book is titled 'Hope and help for your nerves' in the u.s. the book can be obtained new or used for a few pounds or dollars from Amazon or Ebay.
I commend this book to you as one that is life-changing and if by chance anxiety should return later the reader has the knowledge and experience to nip it in the bud. On the u.s. and u.k. versions of Amazon all Claire Weekes' books have been reader reviewed 1,600 times in recent years and 90% rated her method as either Very Good or Excellent.
Maybe you have already discovered her book in which case I suggest reading it again and re-engaging with her method based on Face. Accept. Float. And let time pass. If you haven't read it, but found my outline of her methods helpful, then I recommend you read the full story straight from the horses' mouth.
I sincerely hope and believe that by getting the full story then health anxiety will cease to distress you by exaggerating every small concern into an overwhelming cause of anxiety.
