Because this quarantine is happening now we each feel the weight of it and we see the numbers of people infected and the number of deaths.
Would it be helpful to remember:
One person dies every 37 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease.
Nearly 1.25 million people are killed in car crashes each year. On average, that's 3,287 deaths a day. An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled.
those conditions aren’t contagious... they do cause numbers of deaths that we pay no attention to unlike this virus. Why is it that virus numbers are more sensational than, heart disease, diabetes and car accidents?
Yes, that’s my pup, Ema. 🤗 Did you know that there were over 20,000 deaths during last years flu season? This year we have a novel virus for which we have no vaccine. I hope everyone will stay safe, wear masks and practice social distancing. But there have been worse situations in the past. Humans live through times like this. It is hard. It is simply not the only threat of death we humans face on a daily basis. National Cancer Institute says in 2020, an estimated 606,520 people will die of cancer in the United States. That’s 1,661 people a day. Why doesn’t the news report that?
Good question. But those are the facts that we as people with anxiety and depression need to remind ourselves of and stop listening to them. We have to reality check.
