Help for caregivers who need support

Hi. I'm caregiver to two people, a family member with dementia and another family member who suffers from depression. With all of the stress people are experiencing right now, compounded by a dire financial situation at home, plus needing to be everyone's rock, I'm finding myself stretched to my limit, and the anxiety has kicked in. Can anyone point me in the direction of any kind of support for caregivers who are struggling? Thanks in advance.

I live in the UK, my Wife is my registered carer, She has a telephone number for local services and support for carers, She is also able to go to support groups when needed. I do not know what is in your area however if may be an idea to talk to your GP, He may be able to advise. It is important you have a reach out service to give support.

I'm so sorry that happened. I'm more concerned with having someone I can talk to myself for my own mental health. I hope you get the help you need.

I would check with local hospitals - especially the receptionists in geriatrics or dementia departments; they might know of something.

Also see if your area has a chapter of the Alzheimers Association. (I have been to one of their meetings, though now they are probably all on-line)

Alot of health services are transitioning on-line, so you may have access to some groups outside your area.

(I recently have been taking a local hospital's mindfulness classes, but because it is on-line only, we have pulled in two new participants from other states.)

The Sunday edition of our local newspaper has a "bulletin board" section that lists area support groups meeting that week. Sometimes they include phone numbers. (Maybe this is similar where you live?)

I've done caregiver work for dementia sufferers for years and understand how hard it is. You have to take measures to well-up your own mental and physical health, because it is so draining.

Good luck in your search.
