Anyone else get extremely nervous to go to their doctor. Last time they thought I had problems with high pressure. Never have but I had that much anxiety. Any tips?

Oh yeah. I always get super anxious prior to. So much so that it’s all I can do to not cancel the appointment

Hi Emily, it is very common for some to suffer from "white coat syndrome" which

in itself can bring up your blood pressure.

A tip I'd like to suggest is to make sure you get to your appointment at least 20 min.

earlier than expected. Check in and then sit and breathe deeply as you use the

next 15 min. to calm yourself down. If you can listen to a relaxation site on your

phone that would further allow you to distract your mind for those moments.

When you are called into the examining room, do not talk while the nursing

is taking your pressure. Keep both feet on the ground. Do not cross your legs

or your ankles. They won't tell you this but it does make a difference. Breathe

calmly while they are taking your pressure. Make sure your arm is resting on

a table that is heart high. I think you will find your reading more in the normal

range. Hope this helps some. xx
