Does cannabis ease social anxiety?

I'm going to a wedding this weekend where I will know very few guests. I haven't had a drink in 4 years and because of my social anxiety, I'm starting that internal dialogue justifying having ONE drink will be okay. Canabis is legal in Canada so I've been thinking of trying that to take the edge off at the wedding. All opinions/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Well for me personally it helps. But it is very important you pick the right strain. Because you don’t wanna end up zoning out. You should try a sativa strain. It will keep you relaxed and at the same time concentrated in what you are doing.

Hope this helps! Good luck :)

Thank you, I will ask about the sativa strain when I go to the distillery. I want to try it this evening to see how I react prior to the wedding. I remember feeling anxious after trying it in the past but I don't ever think I did it sober.

I will post this evening after testing it.

Hugs,

Marie

I think cannabis is a good way to relax and take the edge off. It has helped me through many panics and it helps me when I am having a hard time sleeping. I prefer indica for this reason. When I go out and I feel like I am having social anxiety I would use a sativa. However, I have come to notice that when I use it for social anxiety it can sometimes make things worse, as I become a little more quiet and start overthinking whether or not I am being awkward. Other times, it really chills me out and helps me enjoy myself a little more by taking the edge off. If you haven't already I would give it a try first! Test out strains, brands, hybrids, different THC% to see what works best. :)

I am a supporter, lol. Just wanted to give you the different views that I have experienced in my time. xoxo

I'm hoping the distillery is knowledgable on what strain is best for social anxiety. So far sativa maybe the strain that works.

Do you know anything about edibles? That is another method I was thinking of trying.

Marie

If you get edibles that have less THC, you might be in the clear! Dispensaries are really good about matching you up with best fits! Give it a whirl. For smaller amounts I used to take Zoots, they were little candies that weren't very strong but did the trick!

Hope this works out for you!

If you're anxiety is severe than the thc in weed can make it alot worse

Yes my anxiety can become bad but if tonights trial shows that cannabis makes it worse then I definitely won't use it tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up.

In the short term it will probably make you feel great. Longer term is another matter.

It can make you paranoid so I would be careful as it could turn into a disaster

Thank you, I will do some research on theanine. Having different options is helpful.

L-Theanine is supposed to counter the cortisol surge which occurs in the early morning. It is found in green tea or in supplement form. Many of us here have tried it but nobody I have met here so far finds it effective in countering anxiety. But I still start the day with a green tea just in case! Try it yourself, see what you think.

Cannabis is a major cause of neurosis and psychosis according to many professional medical surveys I have read. Those who love dope will tell you otherwise. But I have read too many reports on this forum from people who trace their anxiety disorders to cannabis, some even to using it just once.

The Government of Canada has much to answer for. But as I say other people will tell you it's wonderful and completely safe.

I'd be very cautious of using THC for anxiety. THC can induce anxiety and paranoia. For myself, it worsens my anxiety. What I found that helps if you use a blend with high CBD. CBD will counteract the paranoia that THC gives. Hope this helps!

if you've never smoked it before then keep it that way stick to non alcohol drinks and have no regrets in the morning.
