Just wanted to share a few of my family's Thanksgiving traditions. In 2001 I bought a journal and stickers to created a Thanksgiving journal. My son was 12 years old and my daughter was 8. The night before Thanksgiving I would put the journal and a pen on the table. On Thanksgiving day everyone took turns writing in the journal about what they were thankful for. No one was allowed to read what someone else wrote. In the evening we took turns reading out loud what had been written. As my children grew it was wonderful looking back and reading what they were thankful for. Sadly I lost the journal several years ago. I still haven't given up hope that I will find it. When my daughter was in 5th grade I went to her class with construction paper, lots of stickers, markers and loose leaf paper. Her whole class excitedly made their own journals to take home.
Our second tradition is making Pillsbury cinnamon rolls first thing in the morning and watching the Macy's parade together. My Mom started the cinnamon roll tradition and we also have them Christmas morning.
If anyone would like to start one of our traditions this Thanksgiving please let me know how it goes.

Our tradition is just that all the women, me, my mother in law and my daughter get up early and cook together listening to music. The guys my husband, father in law when he was still with us and my son would do the fried turkey. This will be the first without my father in law. It will be so sad.
I am British and we don't celebrate Thanksgiving but it was so lovely to read about the ways in which you do.
The journal was a wonderful idea and I am so sorry you lost it.
Very sorry to hear of your loss also.
I am now in my early sixties so it is a while ago now but my father had an old reel to reel tape recorder when we were young. My sister, my friends and I would record little poems and songs each Christmas. I have lost both parents now but around 10 years ago before we had lost mum we listened to many of those old recordings. Our childish little voices coming back to us over all those years were very moving. Mum loved hearing them.
Mum died around 4 years ago and we cleared and sold the old house.
I would so love to hear those recordings again if they could ever be found and there is a means of playing them.
