Anyone take this on a regular basis? I have a neighbor who has been taking this for over 20 years along with an anti psychotic. I didn’t think you could take Ativan for that long. He has been taking 1 mg 3 times a day.
Ativan: Anyone take this on a regular... - Anxiety and Depre...
Ativan
Hi....It doesn't seem to be the norm anymore like it use to be. When I first developed
anxiety, I was put on 1/2 a 0.25mg tablet of Xanax, once a day. The doctor kept telling
me that dose was nothing and so left me on it for 30 years. When it no longer worked
I was switched to Ativan which didn't come even close to Xanax. That is when I decided
to come off all Benzos. So it is possible but more likely now a days to have it on hand
as a "when needed" dose. xx
Thanks...I have horrible anxiety due to trauma. I am 62. I am hoping to find a dr who will give it to me regularly. At my age, I don’t care if I become addicted. Can’t go on like this.
You can still find a doctor who will prescribe a benzodiazepine, but I have no idea how hard that will be. Maybe ask your present doc who he/she thinks might oblige? I was on 4 mg/day of a benzo for about 26-7 years and it was much needed and appreciated by me. I have GAD. I stopped it myself when I could feel it was time. I have a son with GAD who's on 6 mg clonazepam/day because he needs that dose and more. That dose barely keeps his GAD under control. Proof there are docs who know and aren't afraid to prescribe what's needed for their patients. Don't let a doc say to you that 4mg/day is the limit a doc can prescribe for because it's not true. BUT...hopefully you will be comfortable with the usual 4mg/day or less. Less is always a good thing, as long as you can function well. Best of luck to you!

Watched a show the other night on the danger of benzos but honestly at this point I don’t care
And the show probably didn't cover the dangers and suffering of ongoing, untreated anxiety & panic attacks. Add inadequately treated anxiety. Or the dangers of all the side effects of SSRIs and SNRIs prescribed for anxiety, and routinely doctor recommended OTC drugs like Prilosec/omeprazole which have terrible effects on our bodies. Few drugs come without a cost, but we must weigh the good that they do with the possible negatives.
Very, very true. I am on sertraline and quite honestly I am practically suicidal. When I take Ativan, all is right with the world. You make very valid points. Do you live in the U.S.?
Yes, in Florida. Where are you?
I'm sorry to hear you're near suicidal. Do you have a good therapist/counselor? Is your depression adequately treated? Is your anxiety the reason you feel this way? What can I do to help? I know how bad high anxiety can be. H*ll would describe it well.
If you have a counselor, can you call him/her and have a session over the phone? What do you think about calling a suicide help line just for counseling and help but clearly state you aren't actually suicidal, just needing to talk with someone? Feel free to pm me if you'd like to talk some more. I care. Lots of hugs coming your way...
