Ocd and routines and anxiety

I have a family member, who I am taking care if that has some ocd behaviors or high functioning autism behaviors that seems to be grounded in routine and are exacerbated by anxiety. I’m wondering if anyone had ideas of things that have helped in this type of situation. He is elderly who has been very independent and has had these behaviors all of his life. So diagnosis and medication are probably not an option. I’m wondering how I can cope with this stuff as he needs my help.
