The sun rises needlessly to reveal every failure, every absence. Even the spiders resent it though their webs are shattered glass of mist useless for prey. The cats yawn in protest and turn to the wall. The room is grey now. And the clock face laughs at me in the gloom, sticking its iron hands in, pulling me away from a happier past and pushing me towards more of a future that's the same. I hear the cars outside and I wonder where they're going, if I could make them feel anything. The people walking with destinations and dreams within reach. Soon I'll be among them trying my best as a sheep in wolf's clothing. Hoping the bath water was hot enough to scald these feelings off. Wishing my clothes are clean enough to hide scars both real and internal. Fearing no one sees me in the full needless daylight.
