So I met w my psychiatrist tonight and she made the conclusion that my increased - almost intolerable - anxiety could be caused by the anti depressants. Currently I was taking Pamelor. And I’ve been probably everything else there is (except the new ones out there).
She says I could have “mood disorder” and has to decide which mood stabilizer to start me on.
Has anyone with depression experienced an increase to anxiety from their anti depressants????
Yes. I was on an antidepressant and after many years on it, I felt like it was making me anxious. So, it took several months & support from my psychiatrist & others, but I'm now off of it. I'm not advising that for everyone. Each person needs to carefully weigh everything and decide with a good doctor/psychiatrist what is best.
How did you and ur support system come to that decision?? Can I ask what your anxiety was like?? And what the difference is for you now being off them? Also were you put on something else like in going to be?? Probably Depakote is what I’m thinking she’ll start me on.

I had been on Effexor. It's quite a long story of how it was decided to be off of it. But I do feel better. I'm not on any now.

Nope but I here it happens to a lot of people because it’s hard finding the right one that agrees with your particular brain. I am on my second one but it didn’t work. I had a friend that went through 5 and finally got the correct one for her.
I HATE feeling like a lab rat and having no choice but trial and error on meds. I totally encourage you to ask your doctor about taking the genealogy test. All she would do is swab you for your DNA, send it off and in two weeks she gets a very clear report of EXACTLY the meds that are right for YOU and wrong for YOU. No one else but what YOU should be on. Tells you every category of psychiatric medications. I was on everything completely wrong and yes, my anxiety is not under control, however the depressions have lifted.

PLEASE ask. I think many of us with mental illnesses have always wished there was a test like there is a test for every other illness to tell us what will be exactly the right treatment for YOUR body not anyone else. It's covered by most insurance. The most you would be billed for I think is up to $300. It is worth it.
As a RN a way to tell if a person has a mood disorder is if this is the reaction. You aren’t alone. Take care of yourself and do what you need to do to live your best life.
Hey thanks for the response. What do you mean by "if this is the reaction"? Meaning like my reaction to anti depressants is increased anxiety?? It makes me a little nervous that she's doing this change because I have been on some form of an anti depressant since I was 11. But then again it could be the answer. The problem I told her is that my "bouts of depression have gone way down", therefore "a bit concerned they will return". However when I think about it - I'd choose feeling depressed over these intense all day feelings of panic, nervousness, dread and fear. My brain has been like a rollercoaster - either the depression is way up and barley no anxiousness or depression is nearly non-existent but anxiety is through the roof!! And as an RN, I appreciate any advice.
