In a good place feeling bad

I recently moved to a wonderful place, my husband has employment, my son has started the school year in a good school and I have accomplished the tedious moving tasks successfully. And yet I am feeling really down. I have been seeking employment and have filled out numerous apps, even been on a couple of interviews to no avail. I have procured 2 positions today- one at a fast food restaurant and the other subbing at a high school. My brain is justifying this as you have to do what you have to do. I’ve been in this predicament once before but this feels different. I feel worthless and humiliated. I also feel shame for feeling this way because I’m not any better than anyone else. Apparently all of my education is for s—-!!

Well I am not surprised you feel down as even good things like moving to a wonderful place is very stressful. Your family seem to be sorted but you aren't yet, don't lose hope though.

I have an Honours degree but found myself out of work and having to do cleaning for a living for a while so I do know how you feel. However any work is honourable even a menial job you are much too educated for - the important thing is to be working and bringing money in. That in itself is fantastic. You will soon find something more suitable for you I am sure. x

Yes I understand that. I felt humilated at first but you know I quite enjoyed cleaning. it was very different to my other jobs in admin and I got great satisfaction from doing it. What I liked was that there was an end to the work whereas in other jobs it is ongoing. Once the work was done and the place was clean it was a good feeling. x

I worked at the restaurant several years back and it was a great experience. Some of the same people are there and greet me with hugs and smiles. It wasn’t stressful and you are right about leaving the work at work. I know it will work out- guess just feeling a bit overwhelmed and tired today. At least I have the weekend to rejuvenate! Thank you! Is everything good for you today?

Your move to a new home and area is very stressful, and it takes time to adjust. Give yourself some space to do just that.

Don't ever discount the value of ANY education! It all contributes to your growth and learning. It often takes a lot of hard work to turn your degree into a job that you love. Don't give up. Start networking or even find a way to volunteer at the company of your dreams. Find a mentor in your field who can help you along the way.

If you put your all into the work you have, you will shine and your employer will notice your hard work, your cheerful attitude, and your humble spirit. It's a good exercise in learning to appreciate those in our communities who do the jobs that we might consider "beneath us", because those jobs typically require a LOT of hard work and the people are underappreciated.

I bet that someday when you get the job of your dreams, you'll never look the same way at the fast-food workers, people who clean, etc. Make sure you always smile and thank them for the work they're doing to support their families.

A good practice for you right now is to list a few things each day for which you are grateful. Write them down. It will shift your focus from being a complainer to being a thankful person. It sounds like you have much to be thankful for with your husband's job and son's school and great new home!

Seems as though God has really blessed you. Say a prayer of thanks and then start to spin your situation into something more positive!

You are absolutely right! My brain knows these things and sometimes I neglect to bring them to the forefront. It is interesting the new circle of folks that surround you. This job has allowed me to enter a brotherhood of sorts of really hardworking, down to earth folks. It’s very humbling. Thank you for the proverbial swift kick!! ❤️❤️❤️
