Soooo I did get my CBCs back. And everything was normal. Except my high cholesterol. And I'm now a med called statin.

Great. Now I'm going to die of a heart attack. Or stroke. Probably tonight. At work.

Someone talk some sense Into me. Please

I’m on statins and so far no heart attacks. I have a family history of high and I mean high cholesterol and I have fought for years before taking a statin but I realized that the side effects would be easier to deal with then dying of a heart attack or worse

Thank you so much friend. I was convinced I would die today. Wow. You have given me so much reassurance. How much did it lower yours?

It actually greatly lowered mine. Originally my cholesterol was close to 300 and then after 4 months it lowered to 200. My doctor asked me to increase my dose and next month I hope to hear better reports.

Does eating healthy really work? How long have you had high cholesterol?

Eating healthy does work but from what I was told if you have a family history then it doesn’t work. My dad was first diagnosed with high cholesterol about 30 year ago and it was 540. They actually had him lay on a table and not move until a cardiologist arrived. He was put on meds immediately. I was in the military and about 20 years ago they suggested o get on meds but I was afraid to. I actually just got on meds about 7 months ago. I tried diet and exercise but did not work. I even tried natural statins but it did not work. So far not side effects and my cholesterol lowered

I dont think mine came about until after I had my child? Isnt that odd.. because all through out the pregnancy and before everything was fine..

Now I have it? It's just scary. I have health anxiety. So now I'm wondering how clogged my arteries are or when my heart might give out.

Might I add, I DID just have an xray on my chest. Doc said heart was normal size, and an EKG which came back normal too.

I keep telling myself not to worry but you know how that goes.....

If you can get on meds it will help save your heart. Just remember with meds, if you start and don’t feel comfortable then you can stop. Remember that you are not only living your life for you but also for the kids

Do you think it's too late to start the meds? I am so convinced I will die early now..

In my view point the only time it is too late is when you are dead. Hold your head up high and just know you are prolonging your life for you and your kids

I'm on a statin....it's just control of risks before you head to heart issues. It could be genetic or it might be something you can control or fix with diet and exercise. A lot of things can even cause cholesterol to increase....alcohol, medications, a bad diet, age, hormones, etc. You won't keel over. It's preventative medication and I was fortunate that it reduced naturally as I actually forgot to take it probably most days of the week. If your cholesterol was in any sort of danger zone, I doubt you would have went home with a Rx for a statin. I know it's easier said than done, but hopefully you can look at this as an active preventative measure against those outcomes. If you had your heart looked at like you mention, try to take comfort in knowing your heart health is going well and this is another step to make sure it remains that way. Many people with heart issues related to cholesterol are usually those who neglected their blood pressure, warning signs, visits to their GP, and/or didn't use the medication. Give it a whirl, it's not too late, and hopefully your next labs will show improvement :)
