This verse is so perfectly composed -- there's not a single misplaced word. It is succinct, pithy, and, above all, memorable (with such a hopeful message for us all to remember). The subtle internal rhyme in the third line brings the latter internal rhyme in the seventh line into such sharp relief -- the ending is marvelous.
Thanks, mrmonk! It was inspired by Silverstein. Does is give that vibe? I love Shel Silverstein’s poetry and children’s books - brilliant, but not barricaded behind a barrage of big words. Sorry for all the B’s. I can’t turn this thing off, haha. But yeah, I like to keep it simple and hopeful when I can. Sometimes it’s hard.
Hehe, I'm embarrassed to admit the only Shel Silverstein work I'm familiar with is "A Boy Named Sue," courtesy of Johnny Cash!
But now, you're the second talented poet I've encountered on HealthUnlocked who has cited Silverstein as an influence, so I think I need to get wise and see what I can find of his online.
I think sometimes the writing of a poem can be an act of creating (or, at least, trying to create) hope when there isn't any in sight.
