PMDD vs. PMS?????

Curious if anyone on here has been diagnosed with PMDD. How can you tell the difference between typical PMS symptoms vs. PMDD? I am usually overly emotional before and during my period. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve been crying to my mom about something and been like “and I’m on my period” or “I’m about to get my period” and she knew that it meant extremely heightened emotions/emotional reactions because she was the same way. Like things that i could normally deal with seem 10,000 worse. I’ve always thought this was typical PMS (because to me it’s all I’ve ever known) but now I’m starting to wonder. Any advice on talking to the doctor about it? I’ve started to track my cycle with an app and am tracking my moods too so I’ll have concrete patterns to show my doctor. Thanks in advance!

Hi!

So sorry you are suffering so much during this time, I was diagnosed with PMDD two weeks before my cycle starts I am an extreme roller coaster of emotions ranging from anger to crying to rage and it’s horrible! Its like your body is constantly changing channels my body also does weird physical pain like severe breakouts or backaches leg pain headaches that don’t ease up. I have bad cravings or either I cant eat anything. I never know what mean trick my body will play because it varies from month to month and my cycle will change days come earlier be late to its horrible. The sooner you talk to your doctor hopefully the better you will feel just tell your doctor that your period is not normal and the emotional and physical symptoms you are having. If you can track it for two months that would be great to give them an idea.

Thank you. I am sorry that YOU go through that. I can only imagine what it’s like to experience the physical symptoms that you experience. I do have some physical symptoms but they aren’t nearly as severe as what you experience. The lack of energy and the emotional roller coaster are definitely things I’m concerned about though. Thanks for the advice.
