Now that I’ve accepted a job offer, I have to do a lot of paperwork to get my taxes withheld, my direct deposit set up, and get on the company’s health insurance.
The insurance form asks a lot of personal questions. My weight. And whether I’ve ever been treated for a long list of issues....including anxiety and depression.
There’s a warning that reads, “Please note that, if you fraudulently leave out or fraudulently misrepresent information, we may terminate or not renew your coverage....”
I *hate* this. I’m in the U.S., and I hate living in this greedy, non-compassionate, corporate-owned country where you get raked over the coals and investigated simply for needing help! IMHO, health care is a human right.

What kind of crazy insurance are they offering you? I'm in the US too and never had to fill out information about my weight and medical issues before to get health insurance through my employer. That sucks.
Insurance should be free for everyone no matter their health! I'm so jealous of all the people from the UK here with their universal healthcare!
Free? It may look free, as it's there when you need it without fronting up the money. But every month when you take your salary, there is a slice of the cake missing in the way of tax and national insurance contributions as I'm sure you're aware About £1800 of that slice per year (more for higher earners) goes to fund our healthcare. You could get a very good health insurance and change for that - with no wait, better treatment, more chance of survival too for that money. It depends which side of the fence you're sat...but I'd be prepared to pay for my own. On close inspection...our healthcare isn't all its cracked up to be, we pay for NASA...we get Air Mauritius! But we still pay for it no matter if we use it.
I’d rather have a guarantee of *some* kind of health care than the current situation - where I can lose the ability to get needed health care at the drop of a hat. I know that universal health care is not “free.” You pay for everything one way or another. I’m going to pay for it either through taxation or through the current U.S. system - where I have to hope 1) I never lose my job and 2) my employer *chooses* to provide good health insurance at a reasonable price. I would prefer to pay through taxation in return for a guarantee that getting the care I need would not bankrupt me.
I'm sure it bothered you to disclose that you're being treated for A & D on your insurance forms. It probably has to do with acknowledging pre-existing conditions to the insurance company, whatever they may be.
At least this distracted you from worrying about all kinds of stuff! I've read that you can't be mad and scared at the same time. But don't be mad all the time, either!
I just filled out the same kind of forms for my new job. I have always been honest with my mental health issues and have never had a problem. I believe the system is realizing that it is a real problem, yet people can function and actually help.
Glad you got the job, but there's always a wrinkle with these corporate jobs. I hate what has become of this country too. It should be illegal for them to ask you those questions.
Kat, sorry you're going through that. But, be glad for your new job! I hope everything goes as well as it can. You're friends are all pulling for you as usual!
