Brain training?

I have severe anxiety and panic disorder for nearly ten years. I'm only 27 and it feels like it controls my life. I have given up coffee, alcohol, and all caffeine. I started meditating, journaling, and doing yoga. I'm also on buispirone. I make small steps of progress, but then I back track. It's so disappointing. I also have a 5 year old daughter and I constantly feel like I'm failing as a mother. The reason for this post is that I'm finally to the point where I am willing to put myself in debt and travel to the mayo clinic. I heard they have a brain training program for anxiety disorder. Has anyone else tried brain training in their treatment? What are your thoughts?

Before you go as far as the Mayo Clinic have you tried regular counseling sessions? CBT is a form of brain training over a longer period of time I’ve found it very helpful.

I'm trying cbt now and I look forward to seeing my therapist every week. I'm only on my third week and there has been incremental improvements.

Buspirone is the only med you are taking? There are much better alternatives, the buspar is generally not that effective for most people.

I have not tried cbt therapy I thought it was more trauma focused. That's my main issue with the anxiety and panic is I have not experienced any trauma. I have no reason to be experiencing what I am. Yes I inky take busbar, I tried two different anti depressants before it made things much worse.

I don’t think I’ve been through really severe trauma but CBT is still a road that has been working well for me. It gets frustrating when my negative thoughts defeat me and I fall back into old patterns but I just need to keep working at challenging thoughts, I think there might even be an app for it.

How long have you been in cbt?

Over a year there has definitely been improvement over where I was but I still have my tough days.

Really? That's great to hear. Is it expensive? I will start looking into it more, thank you!

It’s through a counselor so it’s based on her rates, look for someone who specializes in CBT
