I hate my brain

I'm in school right now and I hate how my brain works! I'm so depressed I don't want to do anything and then out of no where anxiety and the fear of failure kick in and I can't eat or sleep or function until I have done a million things to catch up. I miss the old me. I was driven. I use to kick ass and be so motivated. 2 more weeks til finals. I just got to make it two more weeks.

Prioritize and just do. Trust the good old 20/80 rule. 20 percent of your actions will bring in 80 percent of your income (or in your case achievements). So concentrate on those 20 first, and then think about the rest.

And just doing is the same as cranking an aeroplane. It just needs few circles to start going full force. I have studied extensively, and I noticed simple pattern - I really don't want to do a thing - then I just start doing it - realize it is actually going smoothly or is complex enough to require focus - and then after about 20 minutes, you have already forgotten you did not want to start this.

Yes, do take things 1 day at a time.

Hey. How about medication. I tried a shrink who prescribed me a low dose of Prozac and it helped me a LOT. This would be a long term thing, not helpful for a short time like two weeks. Takes 4 weeks to kick in. Since you remember how you used to be, I think you will know if the meds are working or not after those four weeks.

You sound like my son. He went through he same thing in high school and then again in college. He dropped out and now kicks himself everyday for giving up his scholarship. Please don’t quit.

Hi there!

Please give yourself the credit for making it this far already. The end is near, and you're so close to wrapping your classes up! Go you for sticking with it, you're doing great!

While it can sometimes be frustrating that our brains work the way they do, just remember all the amazing things you've achieved because your brain is the way it is. Something I really encourage you to do in the weeks to come would be to self-care. While self-care is usually the last thing we want to do when we get stressed and overwhelmed, that's when our bodies and minds need it the most! Take a walk or run, a long hot shower or bubble bath, treat yourself to a coffee or an episode of your favorite show. Whatever it might be, make sure you're doing something for YOU. You deserve the same amount of love and care that you give to those around you.

Take it slow. Make your to do list and work on crossing items off one at a time. In the end, you'll get them all done. If you need anything, feel free to reach out. YOU GOT THIS!
