Hello Agora1. Thank you for the reply and warm welcome. Almost two years ago I suffered a traumatic, emotional experience that really affected me but somehow I got through it. This time though it’s different and I truly feel like there is no way through it.

Lost_One, Whether it's the remains of the same emotional experience surfacing or it

is an entirely new emotional event, know that you can and will get through it once more. We all have the strength deep within us. It's about believing that it is there

which helps us get through each time. No matter how different, you are always

in survival mode if we allow it. Whether an emotional issue or even a catastrophic

medical one, believing in success should always be by our side. Never giving up gives

us the Positive attitude we need to succeed. Taking the next step with you. :) x

For me, the 40s have been difficult. In this decade, I lost a parent, divorced after 20 years of marriage, am an empty nester, had an emotional breakdown and have been hospitalized 4 times in two years. There is much more, but those are the high lights.

There is hope. I have worked my butt off for two years to get my life back. The right meds helped tremendously. I work on my mental health recover daily. Therapy helped (sometimes 3 times a week). Don't give up.

Hello AZ1970. I’m so sorry for the difficulties you have experienced and for the loss of your parent. If you don’t mind me asking what was your emotional breakdown like and what kind of therapy did you receive? I’m not trying to pry into your business but rather trying to understand my own feelings and whether I need help or not.

Hi Lost one - why are you feeling you have gone to the wall? Is there a loss or relationship which has affected you badly - is it your current life which is weighing you down as you can't resolve your problem - we all have been there and know what you are going through. Some need complete rest to survive the sustain the blow to the nervous system - hope you have no sleep problem as sleep deprivation can be harmful leading to confusional states and intense emotional upheaval.

Hello hawii60. It is my current life as a whole, with the exception of one thing, that is weighing me down. The life that I desperately want, the life that I should be well on my way to having that I’ve tried so hard at achieving. I’ve failed. Everything is a mess and I have no way to fix it.

Time to take a brief pause. Think you should be pleased that you have pulled through to a state where you have managed to keep your head above water.

Those wants you thought you should have achieved by now are a motivation and a curse. You can't move forward until you see what is still remaining in your current life that is keeping you going. When you are more relaxed, and not under such stress then may be you can change direction. If it's a change in career may be you can get some training within your current work, which can help you in the future,

As long as we can learn, it can give us a sense of achievement which may well fit into your life at a later stage. I understand now I am over 70 that small goals are

achievable. Set your sights too high and you are bound to be disappointed.

Think you have helped us by your post by showing us you have the drive and determination to move forward but you are fighting too hard for change at the moment.

I had a really bad panic attack. After that I wasn’t the same. I couldn’t handle interacting with anyone. I couldn’t do anything. Knives and guns scared me. I had gory images of hurting myself flashing in my mind. My therapist did a lot of talk therapy and some sand tray and EMDR. I also did intensive outpatient therapy and an Art therapy program.

I have had pretty terrible anxiety for the better part of 5 years now (and before that, I was an excessive worrier - likely GAD). This site really has been filled with amazing support! I hope you can feel that.

I've tried a combination of EMDR, CBT, and acceptance therapies. They have all helped me manage my anxiety because at different times I have needed different things.

Good luck and keep us posted!
