hacker1, don't be bullied by your anxiety.

If you'd pulled a muscle in your back, say, that would be uncomfortable but you'd still continue working. Same if you had a sore throat or fractured finger. So why not with anxiety?

Maybe time to show anxiety who's boss.

People have made important business presentations and continued to act and teach whilst experiencing anxiety. When you successfully accept high anxiety (for the moment) and carry on doing what you do, you begin to lose your fear of it. Yes, anxiety is uncomfortable but you'll find you can still function.

Like I say, once you prove to yourself that anxiety doesn't have to mean retiring from your daily work you gain confidence. You generate less fear hormone, the thing that keeps your nervous system overly sensitised.

You should also remember that anxiety has it's limitations even though a vivid imagination tells you otherwise. Anxiety can't kill you, it can't disable you and it can't send you crazy.

So try accepting anxiety for the time being and stop flooding your nervous system with fear hormones. In time your nerves calm down and return to normal and the anxiety feeling and any other symptoms resolve.

It's a case of: Learn to live with anxiety and you'll soon be able to live without it.

Thank you. I was wandering down the rabbit hole running a conversation with my boss through my head. A conversation that hasn’t happened and may never happen. It’s a good reminder that it’s just the chemicals going haywire and we’re stronger. The situation may or may not happen and I have the wherewithal to manage it if it does.

Hacker1, I’m so sorry the day was so rough. You made it to work, though. That’s a big deal. (I didn’t make it today.) We do what we can. I think Jeff1943 has some good wisdom for us. They’re muscles I’m trying to build, too.

Stay strong and be proud of all the steps you did take today. You got this.

Do you know what triggered it?

Thank you for sharing this. I have this happen to me a lot. I hate the excuses that I make for why I leave and the way I deal with it when I get home. Every day you go in is a victory though. I like to use daily checklists to help me accomplish my goals and to let me know when it’s okay to leave. Good luck with tomorrow!
