With all my anxiety I have been feeling over the last couple weeks going to work is always a challenge. How do you just shut your mind down to get through the day?

You cannot shut your mind down, however, there are some positive steps you can take. What is the source of your stress? Is it work, or personal? Have you seen a doctor? Are you on any medication? Those are the most important questions. Next, I would suggest regular exercise of any type you like. Sometimes it’s so hard to do this, but just taking a 20 minute walk can help. Yoga helps me as well. You can do this at home online if you don’t want or can’t afford to attend classes. You need no special supplies and will help you attain peace of mind. If you have physical limitations, you can do

chair yoga, which is adapted for everyone.

I also meditate, which is incredibly helpful and calming. If you mind is racing, you may need an anti anxiety medication. Your family doctor or clinic should provide you with a prescription. I take medication before I go to bed and it helped me eliminate ruminating through the night. A peaceful sleep is also hugely important as is the reduction of caffeine and alcohol. Are you sleeping.?

Thank you for your advice, yes I do see a pcp and a therapist. My PCP prescribed me clonzapam for a faster relief. I have tried citlopram (celexa) but never really gave it a chance since it was making me feel so nauseated at the beginning. I am told that would get better but end up giving up. I need to find more consistency and follow thought

I switched from Celexa to generic form of Lexapro. My sisters and children have all switched to Lexapro. We take it before bed.

The medication alone will not do it, though. Start with exercise if you can.

I know the feeling and I am really sorry that you feel this way. A lot of times I have to make small goals throughout the day or small things to look forward to, even if it is just my break. Also, I think planning at least 30 minutes of time alone to do what I want in the evenings helps me to. Having something to set your mind on instead of the current situation. I hope this helps. I wish you the best!
