I deal with a lot of health anxiety and I’ve been experiencing a lot of fatigue and muscle spasms. Then I begin to worry that it is not just anxiety causing the symptoms. Does anyone have this problem? I was on Paxil for a short period of time but it made my anxiety worse and I couldn’t think clearly.

Hey there. I have fatigue and I'm thinking it is because of the antidepressant (lexapro). Other people in my family have experienced the tiredness while on the med. I haven't had muscle spasms but have had teeth clenching for the first couple of weeks and that went away.

You can check online to see the side effects if you don't have the literature with you. You could also check with your doctor or pharmacy.

hmmm... this is interesting... About 30 minutes ago, I returned home, and as I was getting out of the car, I was feeling really tired. And I was trying to figure out why!

One thing, is (I'm in Los Angeles) the heat. Second thing is, I just came back from a vigorous workout at the gym! But I was like, no... this doesn't feel like physical tiredness...

So at least for ADHD, I know our brains and emotions are working 24/7 very diligently! And every time I do a context-switch in life, I learned that it takes a lot of "mental energy." So my thought for you is: try to determine what "kind" of tired do you feel ? Is it mental, physical, or emotional ?

Hello. It is very possible with the hot LA Summer heat, and your work outs that the amount of sweating that you did threw your water and or electrolytes balance off. Sweating/workouts can also deplete your energy stores in your muscles. Drinking plenty of water, as well as, a small bottle of Gatorade especially on those heavy work out days may help relieve some of your symptoms. :) Here is a link to help better explain what you were most likely experiencing. qualityhealth.com/fitness-e...

Hello. As long as you are sure that you are eating a good diet without junk foods, drinking plenty of water, and that all your vitamins like B12, and D and your minerals such as Sodium, Potassium, Calcium, and Magnesium, are "normal" then what you are experiencing is more than likely anxiety related.

Unfortunately, anxiety, fatigue, and muscle spasms all tend to go hand and hand and here's why. When a person is anxious/stressed it causes your entire body to react, your body releases adrenaline, and goes into fight or flight mode which uses a lot of your energy stores, and, of course, the more you worry, or stress about things the more of your energy gets depleted in the process and leaves you, as well as, the muscles in your body totally exhausted and wiped out. The release of those large amounts of adrenaline are what then causes the muscle spasms because it causes the nerves of your entire body to fire, including those within your muscles. Anxiety puts a lot of stress on your entire body, and your muscles, so again the more stressed you are the more these things will occur. I hope this helps explain what is going on in your body. :)

Of course, to help stop these things from occurring due to anxiety the treatment is to calm down, relax, meditate, take warm relaxing baths, or do what ever you have to do to relieve your anxiety and stress. It's important to try to not become overly stressed, or remain stressed from prolonged periods of time. Which is often for those of us who suffer with anxiety easier said than done.

Thank you for your response, this was very reassuring to read. I’m going to work on meditating more often and trying to not let my negative thoughts get the best of me. I hope you have a nice weekend as well!
