Adaptation = Worse Problems?

Hi guys!

So I’ve had a great therapist who’s given me a lot of super great tips for combating anxiety and depression. Sometimes I can’t get them to work though, and was wondering if any of you guys experience this? And what do you do?

What kinds of tips? Do tell! We need tips. But yep there’s a difference between knowing and doing. So slowly implement these ideas every day. It won’t feel like it but progress is happening behind the scenes, in your brain, when new ideas are introduced. You gotta carve new “habit tunnels” in the brain like deer trails in the woods. And new ideas promote brain growth, but it takes time, consistency, conscious effort, forcing yourself to do something different like think better quality thoughts and ask better quality questions. Aim higher. Use your imagination and picture a day when you are a friend to yourself and you don’t beat yourself up with your thoughts. How would you feel at the end of a day like that? Relaxed, replenished, at peace. Progress is what brings contentment, the journey itself and little baby steps every day. It takes 21 days to establish a new “habit” in your life. So say it took 21 to get into a negative thought cycle. Turn that around with another 21 days of positivity. It’s a project, an experiment, a daily practice that can turn your whole life around. Because there’s one word that determines everything: Attitude. And you are in control of that. If we can talk ourselves into misery then we can talk ourselves into joy. Progress is happening, especially when you’re gritting your teeth through a crisis. Have faith. Change is coming so embrace it and ride the wave but steer the ship through the storm!! 🌊🌊🌊

Basically Cardio and how to set up boundaries. Also how to let bad thoughts leave your mind without focusing on them, breathing exercises, etc.

Like instead of engaging and actively thinking about that thought, just let it pass through. Don’t engage. Use factual evidence if you can to prove that thought invalid. Don’t fret about the future of it can wait. That stuff

I’m having difficulty in the present and then I get all these worries about things that might happen in the future. It’s so hard to fight. I’m having trouble feeling joy in anything cause the anxiety is so debilitating

Hi mhunnell19!

You've gotten some great advice already! But mine is about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Is that sort of what you mean? Because like strongheartforever said, you have to slowly integrate these positive ideas into your daily life. But it does take discipline and every day focus and conscious effort for it to work. You got this! You can do it!
