Increased dose to 20

Increased my escitalopram dose to 20 ,after that had severe anxiety ,chest pains, urination ,now subsided a bit

I had a horrible reaction/mania about 1 week after starting Lexapro! I was so anxious that I couldn’t eat or sleep then I started having vivid auditory and visual hallucinations! I lost my all-time favorite job because I hallucinated at work and acted on those hallucinations! 😱😱 It was a horrifying experience...I wouldn’t play around with a manic-type reaction. And to think that I still try new meds!! I say now that I am allergic to SSRI’s 🤪 Report your symptoms to your prescribing doctor! He/She will know what to do. Wishing you the best!!

I wanted to start on 20 mgs on Lexapro because that is what my sister did. My doctor didn't really want to do that because at that dosage anxiety is a side effect. I just wanted to get it in my system. It (20 mgs) made me clench my teeth for some reason and really made me thirsty. After a month I tapered down to 10 mgs (my current dose) and those side effects went away.

Yes ,20 mg is a high dose ,and dangerous dose

I also take Escitalopram, however, my dose is 10 mg daily. I have had similar reactions on other medications. Everyone's body is different, so don't be afraid to tell your doctor how you are feeling. Maybe keep a journal for a few days of your symptoms so that you can give them a detailed report of your symptoms. Hang in there and don't give up! I understand how frustrating trying different medications can be. Try not to get discouraged.
