I have been on zoloft for 15 years. It woked well until a few months ago. Im having terrible breakthrough anxiety attacks and they are depressing. I dont know how to make this stop, but its very frustrating!! Any advice from someone whose been there?

This too shall pass. I know it stinks after so many years. Did you communicate with the MD? Maybe you just need to add an anti anxiety for a few weeks. I have to use them at times as I’m on lexapro and I too have breakthrough. It’s possible that Zoloft “pooped out” so you may need the MD. Has anything changed in your life the past few months that may be the cooperate leading to this?

Yes, actually it all started when the foster parents of kids we had been bonding with several days a week decided to adopt the kids instead. These are good friends a i still see the kids every week. They still call me mom. My daughter got horribly sick with a flu virus that lasted about 10 weeks. I got an ear infection that went deep into my inner ear in january and i have been ill since. I was just starting to feel myself again when my ear doctor leveled me saying i need ear surgery and very invasive sinus surgery. Iv had that surgery before, its horrible to recover from. I do have something i believe is called hydroxyl or hydroxide, something for anxiety. I have tried a half pill twice and it does help. The hardest part is once i have attacks, i think about them non stop. Then i feel like im a lousy mom and wife.

Hi Shellbelle123, I agree with rpanio in that the Zoloft most likely isn't effective anymore. That happened to me with a benzo I was on. Talking with your doctor as to the next course of action to alleviate your symptoms is warranted. Wishing you well. xx

Thank you! How does it work, do they switch to something else? I dont want to have to wean off, thats horrible. My doc talked about adding something with the zoloft and i dont know what that would be.

Your doctor is the best judge of what is best. The thing is to trust and believe in what he gives you which will enable it to work for you better. Don't put any doubts or fears but stay positive. xx

My doctor added buspirone. Significant improvement for the most part, hoping it kicks in alot more. I want to feel like myself again!!

Buspirone is a good antianxiety drug. I'm glad to hear you are feeling some results. Wishing you well in feeling like yourself once again. Stay positive. Compliment the drug with relaxation and deep breathing methods. :) xx

Tablets only do half the job , the rest has to come from within so I found. If the tablets have got you to a certain point its probably natural to feel some anxiety ... you sound very aware . you can either go back to your doctor or maybe think about your own coping skills could they be any help to you . or could you modify what you do in someway to help yourself. best of luck.

I experienced the same thing with zoloft. I had been on it about 15 years also. I was only taking 25 mg, so my doc bumped me up to 50mg and that has worked for me. It took a couple of weeks for the new dosage to get into my system and work like I wanted it to, but I am feeling much better now! Good luck!

Hi

I am on Zoloft, I was on Zoloft for a few years and my doctor asked if I wanted to try something else so I did. I went back to Zoloft and been on it for 4 years. I have been told by my doctor that sometimes you get immune to it and you change it up a bit or adjust the dosage

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I was on 150mg of Zoloft and then went down to 75mg. I believe you maybe getting tolerant of it. Especially if you’re experiencing anxiety. Can you mange you situation without changing medications? I know circumstances can change in life. and if they are going to affect you for a long time, it’s just a matter of upping your dose and talking to someone about why you are experiencing anxiety. Finding out if it’s coping with life or tolerance of medication causing anxiety. My doctor would up my dose if I started feeling anxious.

I went to Effexor after the Zoloft, it made me super hypo, but I was still able to work and carry on with my life with no anxiety. Try to stay off opioids for long periods of time. If you’re anxiety is caused by temporary circumstances and you are bad with panic they can help.

I hope you can figure it out soon. Best of luck X
