I have struggled with ADHD and learning disabilities for years. My mom had me tested for the learning disabilities, but not the ADHD because she didn't want me to be on medication for the rest of my life. 🤨
Fast forward from 3rd grade to my first year in college, I get retested and get my accommodations but don't do the ADHD testing because it's not covered by insurance and neither was the Disability testing. I get the accommodations of the time (2000) and yet to continue on, but I struggle.
I have had life changes, emotional struggles and I am finally in my last semester of college.
I was tested for ADHD in 2015 and I have been medicated since 2016.
I have been using reading software to get through in home quizzes and tests for a few semestey now. This teacher required us to use ProctorU. I must say I have never get so violated.
ProctorU outsources it's proctor work to people in the Philippines. I attempted to explain why my test didn't match the instructions and the guy put me on hold. I was told I could not use my reading software and could not read aloud to myself... By the end of the test I had been interrupted 3 times and the original proctor transferred me without a word.
I emailed my teacher today, after calming down, and I will be retaking the test with Disability Support Services (DSS) at my school and I think I will have them do my quizzes too.
I don't what to be different, but that culture shock was too much for me. ProctorU does not train their staff on what the Americans with Disabilities Act is and how to treat those students. Someone in the Philippines doesn't know about those laws or how we as Americans use them. The guy treated me like I was crazy and went about his business unable to understand what I was telling him.
Ugh....
