Job Related Stress: Need advice

I've had to change careers because I've been in printing production management for my whole life and when I got laid off.......well, you all know how that industry is doing. I have what most people would consider a "nice" job and a good one to segway into retirement, But I'm miserable. It's causing me more anxiety than happiness. My problem is that I'm 60 years old. And there's not a whole bunch of employers out there willing to hire someone my age. Does anyone have any experience looking for a job in their older years? Any success stories? Any advice? Suggestions/ advice/ encouragement welcomed! Peace to all.

Hello, Could you try one of the Temp. Agency's. sometimes you can get a job that leads into a permanent position. Are you a member of AARP I think that have some help. Sorry I cannot think of anything else. But I send you best wishes, love & peace. Sprinkle 1.

Hi Maxiomargie! I'm also 60 and familiar with the job market situation for our age group. Are you in the U.S.? Do you need a fulltime income or are you just looking for a job for something to do? There are places out there that will hire us, but I understand your frustration. It's not easy. I did find a job and then got an unexpected scholarship to go back to school. i love it, though it's not as easy as it was when I was 20 and had more energy. Feel free to message me if you'd like, and meanwhile, hang in there! We may be older, but we have wisdom that can only come from having lived as long as we have.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. You inspire me! Going back to school is awesome.

I know what you mean about us having achieved some wisdom in our lives. The kind that only comes with age. It's hard to convince employers of that tho. Maybe I should just try changing up the attitude, as hard as that might be. Thanks again.

What is this nice job? As an older person, I can tell you that it is not pretty to look for a job after losing one even with degrees and experience. I would hold on to my hat, and not cause yourself more pain and confusion.

Sorry for the late reply. That's what my therapist tells me. She says I'm just making myself crazy. I work in the business office in one of our local school districts. Pay is OK, but the perks are really good. I get all the breaks off (except for summer). There are some days when I think "hey, I can do this" - but other days aren't so good. I'm trying to re-program my thinking. I just wish I felt more comfortable. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply. :)
