Don't forget to paint on a smile.

My depression has been getting worse over the last few days. It makes me laugh that in the morning when you get ready for work we have to 'put on our faces', where we do our hair and makeup just right. I hate that without putting the mask on people ask you if you're sick or assume there's something wrong. Why can't I just not feel like getting pretty today - what's wrong with that? When you put on your mask you have to be sure to paint on a smile.

Dealing with depression and anxiety and working in customer service and caregiving made this one of the worst things for me! I'm required to put on a smile be extra cheerful blahblahblah just to please people even though nothing's good enough for them anyway. The last thing someone needs when they're unhappy is someone telling them somethings not good enough.

I understand... I feel your pain. I can't shake this feeling.

Hi using make is symbolic of the false fase isn't it? Many of us have to put a face on at work with or without make up! I didn't usually bother. One of my sisters who usually wears make got fed up of being asked if she was ok just because she didn't put in on always.

I can relate because i do it every single day. It sucks. I have to drag myself outta bed just to get ready for work. I work in retail and i have to deal with customer service. I just try to treat people the way i would like to be treated. But sometimes i get tired of putting on a mask. So sometimes i might have a "stone face" no expression etc., and believe me i get judged for it. People always ask me "are you mad?" "you look mad" and "are you ok?" "you have a nasty attitude". When really i just don't feel well due to my depression and anxiety;(
