Hello, I am new to this forum and have been struggling with anxiety and depression for most of my life. I first went on anti-anxiety medication (Lexapro 20mg) around 10 years ago and although I decreased the dosage over the years (to 10 mg) it helped tremendously. I went off my medication in January when I found out that my husband and I were expecting. i still had anxiety but it wasn't controlling my life. In March, we found out that we had lost the baby. As can be expected, this loss triggered the anxiety and depression and I was not on any medication. I have since gone back on Lexapro (at a lower dosage of 5 mg) and although I am able to function, I am still having anxiety issues (especially in the mornings). I have been on the medication for 2 weeks but am frustrated that the drug does not seem to be working as it once did. I guess I assumed because I was previously on Lexapro that it would start working right away. We had to reduce the dosage to 5 mg due to a sudden increase in anxiety when I tried to start the medication at my previous dosage (10 mg).
Has anyone else experienced a waiting time between when Lexapro started working even though they were previously on the medicine? I would like to stick to Lexapro (or this drug class) because we plan to get pregnant again and this seems to be the safest during pregnancy.
