Meds increasing sadness
Antidepression meds are for depression, whose symptoms are crying and feeling depressed, among others. Don't be surprised to feel depressed, sad or like crying. You might also find yourself feeling any number of other things appropriate for someone who's clinically depressed. Since you also are being treated for anxiety, you may also notice symptoms of clinical anxiety in yourself. Taking your meds and knowing your diagnoses and how they present themselves are 2 ways to become familiar with them. Evidently they will be a part of your life for awhile longer.
Thanks for the reply. I just want to understand why I am so sad. I never felt this sad ever in my life. I was just curious to know if meds can cause that. I am going back to my doctor because it has become overwhelming for my wife and I. I just want to stop being so sad. Before I started taking these meds I was never this sad.
Hi sorry to hear this. I don't know how long you have been on them but it can take 6 weeks to fully get into your system.
Maybe these ones don't suit you so it is a good idea to go back to your doctors and ask for a change. I hope you find a suitable one.
I actually feel like the meds are bringing on this sadness. I feel like I am being misdiagnosed. I have bad anxiety and these antidepressants are not helping at all. I have feelings of sadness that I never have felt before.
It is true, it takes time to adjust to your meds. Also, your doctor should have you on a 30 day review appointment. Tell your doctor how you're not doing well on these meds. If it gets real bad before you see him again, call him! Talk to his nurse.
If you don't feel your doctor is hearing you, seek another. Keep trying. I went through a half dozen meds before finding one that helps.
I've taken several different kinds of antidepressants in the past and all of them made my depression worse. I'm still dealing with anxiety and depression but it's not as bad as it was when I was on the medicine. Everyone reacts differently to medications. It helps some people and others it doesn't.
Hi, I am 4 weeks on SSRI and the first few weeks were hard... extreme sadness at times and separation anxiety when not with family or friends... this is starting to lift now as the med helps my seratonin levels balance. How long have you been on your med and what type? Are you getting any other therapy? Have you looked into meditation or CBT videos on youtube??
I hope things get better for you. I know what this fees like.
Hey, I hope you're feeling empowered and heard by all these responses.
In my experience it took a while for me to find the right meds. I told my psychiatrist they weren't working for me, he told me to wait a bit longer. Then a bit longer came and I went into full blown crisis. The next day he said to stop taking them and prescribed me something completely different and now I feel more in control of my emotions than ever. Meds are hard to figure out, but in my experience if you hang in there and keep the lines of communication open with your wellness providers, it'll get better.
