When you say CBT, are you referring to a therapy your psychologist suggested?
CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and it is very successful in working through PTSD and traumatic events. It is a form of "talk therapy," meaning it will consist of you sitting down with a therapist at regular intervals (like weekly, bi-weekly or monthly depending on their recommendation) and talking with them about your coping skills, triggers, etc. Then they will teach you ways to be aware (or cognitive) of these situations instead of reactive, and how to deal with them in a healthy way.
In short, it's a therapy that is used to change the way you think and process your trauma so you can learn healthy coping skills and move through life without any debilitating behavioral issues. I am going through this treatment with my counsellor, and it is going very well. It has helped with my PTSD and even my anger issues over the last 6 months.
I really hope it works well for you too - I believe if you trust in the process it can make a real difference in your life.
