Today was a pretty rough day for me... Was wondering if anyone has experience with St John's Wort? I'm strongly considering trying it before an SSRI... Any help is appreciated! Thanks

I tried it for mild-to-moderate depression without noticeable results. There's a study here in plain language: cochrane.org/CD000448/DEPRE.... It suggests that sometimes it's better than placebo. Herbals are tough because they're not regulated by the FDA, and some studies are showing that what's on the label isn't always on the bottle. Definitely do your research on the product & manufacturing- find the a trustworthy, high-quality herbals retailer.

Also, if/when you try it, and if/when you move onto SSRIs, please tell your prescriber. SJW has a lot of drug-to-drug interactions, and can interfere with other medications for a little while after you stop taking it.

Edit: by the way, I remember that you had mentioned planning a family. SJW is not considered safe for pregnancy or lactation. reference.medscape.com/drug...
