Lithium

Met with psychologist today. I'm on max dose venlafaxine but still have regular dark and suicidal thoughts. Psychologist was talking about adding lithium. Is any one else using lithium? Does it work? Any side effects?

Hi For me personally lithium worked great as a mood stabilizer! I was on it for almost 2 years, and have recently been taken off by my psychiatrist.

As far as side effects go, I was extremely thirsty all the time when taking it. Like dying of thirst! The lithium also made my creatinine levels high, which is why my psychiatrist took me off of it. The only other side effect I had, and I do apologize because this is gross, but I experienced lack of bladder control. Other than those side effects I am a big fan of lithium, because it worked so much better than Depakote. Hope this helps, wishing you all the best
