I'm sorry that your work situation has deteriorated so badly. I think you haven't been eating so well either, have you? This may stretch out much much longer, do you think you could manage if we asked you to get us some kitchen idols to follow? A little bread, water, eggs, etc.?
Hey spedteach, I know that feeling ! Depression and working at the same time is a big juggling act. I rarely find it a successful or pleasureable experience. If you want to talk it through with me as someone whose been there then drop me a line and let's see what I can suggest that might help you
Hi! GazzaThomas:
Thanks for your response. I am just so scared right now, because the "plan" for teachers is to retire from teaching. I am thinking that I will not make it. I have worked many, many years with depression and anxiety and for the most part I have been able to cope, but this is my biggest fear coming true. One of the writers said that I was not own a job. Hmmm Confused. Help.
is there anything stopping packing that job up and going for another? There are some very bad managers out there
Hi It's just that I have taught 21 years in this district and 26 all together. It would be giving up a teaching career. I couldn't find a job where I could earn close to what I do now. I know money isn't everything, but it is a main concern now.
ok, but you can never assume you will remain in the same job, the world doesn't owe you that much - jobs are never that safe these days. Hold that out as a possibility could take some pressure of you, don't desperately try and hang on to it in other words.
When I was forced out of a previous job, I generally put up light defence through it - eventually I was forced out but I didn't lie awake at night worrying about it, you an only do what you can do, if that's not enough then so be it
That's all it is just one job, In the end I got a better one - you sound a talented person to me - what about those people who KNOW they have no chance of getting a good job
Hi! Richard: That is a good point. I know that I should be thinking about others, but right now I just can't. The walls are up too high right now. I'm scared.
this is part of life all being very unpleasant. There are quite a lot of times when we simply lose control of our lives,
what is making you afraid, losing your job and then where you live?
hold on and you will see a way out, maybe not straightaway, u just have to wait as agonizing as that is - please let me know how you get. There could be many on this site who could help you directly
Hello everybody and especially to you spedteach... first of all i wanted to let you know i totally understand were you are coming from in regards to your job. Im in the same boat as well.. i really hate my job, and i no longer have any intrest in my current field (IT).
I get sick at the thought of having to go in that place everyday. I wanted to say to you, that worrying about your issue won't fix anything, and what ever is going to happen will happen. I know that's easy for a stranger to say, but its the truth.
Think about another time in your life when you stressed and worried about a sitution... you pulled through it did't you? And you can do it again. Only thing i can sugguest is to look for another opportunity while you still have a job. Its plenty of teaching positions out there and you seem like you know your stuff. The universe will open doors for you if you just believe and put in the effort...
Hi spedteach, I get it , it's happening to me right now . Moving away from the job is easy if you have another job to go to and you should look around a little further a field to see what's in offer with your skills. Don't box yourself into just teaching , look at other careers and see how you feel ?
This is what I am doing now after 29 years in the public sector . I am looking and keeping my options open even consider different work for less pay , you just need to understand what you can by with and not if you see what I am saying!
Talk to your doctor again too especially if your meds are not helping . Also consider some time out too . I did and it helped a little .
Message me if you want to talk more
That's great- you still can retire from the public sector yet you still have the option to stay. Definitely helps with anxiety. As someone with longtime anxiety and depression, I can relate to the former sentence. I have gone through a lay off in my life- and it was budget issues as well. Having options can really pull it together.
