Only 10% of non-surgical treatments for back problems kill pain, says review

theguardian.com/society/202...

This is a half-way interesting article. My Ma, who obviously has AMN, yet she refuses to admit this, she never even mentioned it to her GP. Anyway, my Ma has suffered chronic back pain for nigh on a decade now.

I’ll chalk it off to AMN, and I believe some of the young ladies who post on here have mentioned back pain as well.

I’ll give you the TL;DR of this article, pretty much nothing works for back pain, bar surgery. But, of interest to me is the stuff that works, or might work to some degree. Them being mainly non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). In addition, five treatments also bring some relief for chronic low-back pain: exercise, spinal manipulative therapy, taping, antidepressants and what are known as transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TPRV1) drugs.

Also mentioned is TENS stimulation, which I pposted on yesterday. But wheat really caught my eye was taping.

I originally bought my TENS device because I’d read how it could help with spasticity. After I posted yesterday on TENS for my arm pain, I had a search on the latest reports on TENS for spasticity.

I found this report

Effectiveness of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation with Taping for Stroke Rehabilitation

I read it, but I couldn’t figure out what it meant by taping, but I clicked through on the Guardian article and clocked what was meant.

Clarifying the Differences Between Various “Taping” Techniques in Rehabilitation (NMT)

And this tape, you can buy on Amazon.

Compression tape/decompression tape, I have found that placing pressure on parts of my leg helps with spasms. This tape is cheap enough, I’ll invest in some and give it a go.
