Nerve pain in hamstrings

I was diagnosed with AMN about 4 years ago. As time goes on, my gait and balance are getting worse but not to the point of using aids to help. Lately, I have been noticing sharp bilateral pain in the backs of my legs simultaneously. Sometimes, it makes me feel like my legs are collapsing. Is this the normal progression of the disease or something else? It is concerning.

hi Korda I was diagnosed in 2012 and now have to use aids to get around but still manage gymn 3 times a week and an additional exercise class. I find my leg muscles get very stiff and have to stretch a lot plus the leg spasms. Everyone has different symptoms but I do put mine down to effects of AMN. There is no exact rule book for AMN symptoms as some have no problems at all. Also aqua fit helps and also a good private physio.

Hope you manage to find some relief and my comments have been reassuring, take care Sue

I am a symptomatic female diagnosed in 1991. I use a rollator for a few steps in the house. Wheelchair or scooter mostly.

I have pain in my legs as you describe. I do attribute it to ALD. Baclofen helps clonozapam at night for spasms gabapentin for neuropathy. Pool helps immensely unfortunately I live where that is only 2 months of the year.

Keep moving safely. I move as much as I can.

Hello, yes I had the same issue in 2017. I had been working on painting our baseboards in the house getting it ready to sell and began to experience what I thought were hamstring pulls. Turns out it was sciatic nerve pain. My ortho doc and physical therapist gave me some back stretches that relieved the pinched sciatic nerve. Make an appointment with an ortho or if you have a physical therapist see if they can help you.

AMN patients get spasticity unlike a spinal injury whose muscles atrophy.

First off, magnesium and potassium supplements can be a help.

Second, learning a stretching routine is very helpful.

Third, take a soak in some warm water.
