Vasectomy complications with AMN?

Hello all,

My wife and I just had our second child a month ago. We both agree we only want two children, so I have been planning to get a vasectomy to avoid future pregnancies.

Today I met with a vasectomy specialist, and during our consultation, we had a long conversation about concerns with AMN. Because this disease affects our nerves, the doctor thinks that there could be a much greater risk of long term pain in the region, post-vasectomy. I have previously had quite a lot of nerve pain at the site of previous surgeries, including a spinal cord stimulator implant and explant (ultimately explanted because of significant nerve pain at the battery site).

Anyways, the doctor wanted me to reach out to an AMN specialist to ask about this risk before we proceed with this surgery (and I appreciate his concern), and I mentioned that I would also post a question on here for other men with AMN. So...has anyone had a vasectomy, and what was your experience with potential complications or pain? Details are appreciated. If it's too personal for you to share publicly, please feel free to send me a private message. Thank you very much!

I have not had a vasectomy but have had three broken ankles and a broken hip. All requiring surgery. As for direct pain, the AMN blocked things well. The issue for me while I did not have intense pain, spasticity was worse for a few days.

If the procedure is not the issue, get it. Use ice, Motrin, and some sort of antispasmodic like Baclofen. Stay immobile relax. Use a urinal bottle to help things out. Try and refrain from pain killers.

Get pampering, favorite dinner, ice cream, and a favorite drink.

Aaron, is your second child a son or another daughter?

A son. One of each, and we're done.

What would concern me wouldn't be any pain, it'd be the spasms.

I get the lot. Fingers, colon, stomach, legs. They all spasm.

Constipation or even a full bladder will get me spasming. Best alarm clock there is. Great for an afternoon nap into the bargain.

All that said, you got to man up, take the vasectomy, and deal with it. Your young wife has had two babies. You can't expect her to go under the knife.

I have said my piece.

Happy New Year, Aaron98
