Magnesium

I have been taking magnesium citrate for about 4 years and have purchased from Now Foods via Amazon. I have recently obtained a new supply from Wellness Store also via Amazon. Both claim to be 100% pure magnesium citrate with no additives. However, they taste completely different, the Now being very acidic and the Wellness having no acidity and more like ground chalk. I have no idea which is right and whether I should keep taking the new supply or whether I have been fooling my self with the last. Any suggestions as to which might be the right one welcomed?

Are you taking it in powder form?

(Think you must be)

If in tablet form I’m wondering how you’ve noticed the taste.

I’ve taken around 5000 x 200 mg over 5 years and swallow them back as quick as possible without tasting them at all.

I buy mine from Amazon also and have bought various brands over 5 years, including NOW.

I should have said. Yes, it is powder and I mix it with water. Probably would have been better to buy tablets then I wouldn’t have realised that there was a difference.

I get tablets on prescription from my GP- might be more consistent?

Unfortunately, I can’t get them that way. A pity because I would at least know that they are genuine.

Peter, magnesium is very cheap to produce so I think what you’re buying is the real thing.

I do have powder and have taken it twice only, once to try and once to abate an svt run which was followed by multiple ectopics. It worked on that occasion, or at least that’s what I put it down to.

Can’t help you with the different tastes though.

Oh well, I’ll carry on with the powder I ’ve been taking. The last couple of weeks haven’t killed me so it is probably safe. My heart has been very stable for the last few years following an ablation so I didn’t want to change the pattern.

If you want to try tablets, both Higher Nature and Nature's Best have good reputations in the UK.

Are you sure the Wellness supply is magnesium citrate? It sounds as though it might be magnesium oxide which is not as well absorbed, and more likely to cause diarrhea which is always best avoided by us Afibbers, because it causes us to lose other electrolytes as well, and they are very important for the heart's well-being.

Im a huge believer in Magnesium but they are not all suitable for A/fib sufferers.
