Hi I have started taking mag citrate but only seem to be able to take 300 a day anymore and I get lose stools which don't want as worried blood thinner may not work as well if flushed out of system. Does anyone know if I can take magnesium tau rate at same time as citrate or just try tau rate ? Which is best magnesium for AF?

Don't take so much then. If you get loose stools then you are overloaded.

There are many magnesium advocates here who will tell you at length what you need to do but bottom line is don't take too much. By the way they are not blood thinners they are anticoagulants. They don't thin blood and it is a bad terminology sadly widely used by the press.

That's interesting I am on rivaroxaban I alway thought they thinned blood so you had to be careful not to cut yourself?

No they slow down the clotting process that is all. The viscosity stays the same so it doesn't leak out or anything like some people seem to worry. Just takes longer to clot if you do cut yourself. Pressure and a dressing for a serious cut obviously but I work with metal and often leak a bit after a cut but never a problem. Spent last week cutting hedges round the property so loads of thorn scratches but no rivers of blood.lol

Even the leaflet with my Xarelto refers to it as a 'blood thinner', don't know why but they must have a reason?

It is easier to spell that anticoagulant. Honestly your blood viscosity does not change.

I know that! It was more of a question of psychology, I hate to think they think we are unable to read/understand the word 'anticoagulant'.

Try dissolving your tablets in water before taking them, this should solve the loose bowel problem.

Try Magnesium Taurate, is better for the heart and you don't get the loose stool problem. I currently take 450 at night, no problems.

I take Mg Citrate 150mg per day plus 1tsp of Nutri Ultra Muscleze which has Mg in and taurine no problem. Have you tested your current level, maybe you have enough already?

As someone else mentioned, why not try the oil as it gets absorbed through the skin so bypasses stomach so no laxative effect.

Robert185 You are taking the wrong magnesium Better and good for afib: Magnesium L-Threonate; Magnesium glycinate and Magnesium Taurate 2 of the threonates with breakfast--2 of the glycinates (100 mg each) with lunch and 2 of the taurates (125 mg each) with dinner. not any more. they are available by internet from swansonvitamins.com and iherb.com which ship globally. the brands I use are Source Naturals for the threonate. Pure encapsulations for the glycinate and Cardiovascular research for the taurate.
